Student Ownership in Action
A practical professional learning series for secondary schools
Student Ownership in Action is a 3-session implementation series designed to help secondary teachers shift more of the thinking, participation, and responsibility for learning to students. The result is classrooms where students contribute more, think more independently, and rely less on the teacher for every next step, without creating chaos, losing structure, or requiring a complete overhaul of existing courses.
Across three sessions, at a pace that works for your school, participants learn a clear process for shifting the cognitive load from teacher to student and apply that process in their own classrooms between sessions. The series is built around practical implementation, not abstract theory, so teachers leave each session with one focused change to test straight away. It can be tailored for departments, small groups, or whole-school teams.
Session 1: Making Space
Teachers identify where they are still carrying too much of the lesson and choose one routine that creates more room for student responsibility.
Session 2: From Spoon-Feeding to Thinking
Teachers use practical structures that shift more thinking, discussion, and feedback work to students while maintaining clarity, rigor, and structure.
Session 3: Make It Stick
Teachers learn how to respond when students resist or hesitate, and leave with a practical plan for sustaining student ownership over time.
Participants leave with usable routines, practical tools, and clear next steps that work across secondary subject areas and curricula.
This series is well suited to schools looking to strengthen engagement, independence, and shared responsibility for learning through visible classroom change.

Format: 3 live sessions, online or in person
Certificate: Participants who complete the full series receive a certificate of completion.
