Alex is an educational consultant, teacher, and founder of ABC-Learning, known for his long-standing commitment to helping students think more carefully and independently. With over 37 years of classroom experience — including three decades in an international school in Zürich — he has worked with learners from early primary through to Grade 12, developing deep expertise in IB Diploma Biology, Theory of Knowledge, and Middle Years Science.
Alongside his classroom practice, Alex has supported teachers in navigating complex pedagogical shifts, including co-leading a bilingual pilot programme in Switzerland that trained educators in immersion methodologies and bilingual science teaching in English and German.
As a council member of the Let’s Think Forum, Alex’s work is grounded in cognitive acceleration and classroom-based action research. He specialises in developing higher-order thinking through the Cognitive Acceleration approaches pioneered at King’s College London and continues to collaborate with Emeritus Professor Michael Shayer. Through ABC-Learning, Alex works with teachers internationally, offering research-informed, classroom-tested methods that strengthen reasoning, deepen learning, and lead to lasting academic gains.
